Reading and Lecture: "How to Break Hearts: Finding Character in Small & Independent Press"

Presenting two lectures from his How to Break Hearts Craft Lecture Series Richard Chiem will explore a variety of writing methods and approaches to help create your most heartbreaking works of fiction and show how to mine from your real life. Part one will highlight The Second Person trauma, collage, being a collector in fiction, and the work of Lorrie Moore. part two will highlight suspense, suddenness, the art of walking, and the work of Jesse Ball.
Richard Chiem is the author of You Private Person (Sorry House Classics, 2017), and the novel, King of Joy (Soft Skull, 2019). He lives in Seattle.
