PPE Reading Group: A Duty to Resist
(Academic)

This semester, the PPE Reading Group will discuss Candice Delmas' book, A Duty to Resist: When Disobedience Should Be Uncivil (2018). The book discusses our responsibilities as citizens in the face of injustice. Proponents of civil disobedience generally hold that a person needs a solid justification to break the law. However, activists from Henry David Thoreau and Mohandas Gandhi to the Movement for Black Lives have long recognized that there are times when, rather than having a duty to obey the law, we have a duty to disobey it.

The PPE Reading Group is provisionally scheduled for every other Thursday, 4-5:30pm. We will decide about the most adequate format (in person, hybrid, or virtual) at the start of fall semester. For in person discussions, enjoy free pizza and soft drinks (if health considerations permit)! To join the group, please contact Gil Hersch.

Location: In-person, hybrid, or virtual (TBD)
Price: Free
Sponsor: Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE)
