Reform, Women, and Fashion: Changes in Women's Daywear from 1840-1920
(Academic)

This exhibit is part of a collaborative project during Spring semester that celebrates the socio-political impact of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote. The exhibit features dress items that illustrate changes in fashion that point towards women's liberation, such as 19th century riding habits, a 1920's swimsuit, a pair of field hockey bloomers, and a Chanel-style sportswear ensemble. In addition, several daywear ensembles from the mid to late 1800s and evening wear ensembles from 1900 to 1920 are exhibited to serve as points of comparison and to illustrate the trend toward dress reform was most applicable to daywear.
